On each of my job interview visits, I've taken a few photos of the place. The tertiary reason is to let the visitors to this site glimpse the places I go, in Texas, Florida, Indiana, and the like. The secondary reason is to gather information about the people I visit. Their reactions - amused, confused, encouraging, and the like - tell me something about my potential coworkers. The primary reason is to let me recall the facilities of each stop on this whirlwind tour. Almost every decent campus has nice exteriors, and those are pretty to look at. It's much more important to look at interiors, heating, blackboards, offices, and the like. Places in trouble, or poorly run places like my graduate school, scrimp in these areas. That's why I ask about heating, dining hall options, and the like. Thinking about working somewhere for one year, six, or thirty is a giant decision. A workplace where things don't work so well is a bad choice. That's why I make sure to include a picture of the hallway, to examine paint, color, light, and the like.
I included comments about each place with the pictures. I'm not going to describe how I felt about each department, position, salary, or my chances - the comments are just about the place. I think that's best for a public page.

The entrance to the Mathematics and Statistics building at Texas Tech. |
One of the mathematics hallways. |

The Red Raider statue, of Will Rogers. The hind end faces Texas A and M. |
Yes, that's snow. The first snow I saw in 2007 was in Texas. The school closed in the afternoon. It was fairly icy, but a non-Southern school would have likely stayed open. |
|
My talk got moved up from 4 PM to 2:30. The sleet, ice, and snow did make the campus pictures much prettier than the rainy morning would have provided. |
Casa de Kirby, friends from Chicago with whom I stayed. |

Their younger daughter, Bronwen, is 2. |
Here she holds up Frog. Bear was missing. |

The storm made getting out of Lubbock difficult. The airport did have de-icing equipment, at least, but the skies didn't open until early afternoon. |
I saw this vending machine in the Dallas airport. It scared me. |
|
The Charlotte airport, including the rocking chairs. I have many memories of my visits through this airport, which generally came after frustrating times with a client. |
Welcome to the University of Central Florida. |
|
The campus is heavily brick. |
UCF is expanding rapidly, giving it the nickname Under Construction Forever. |

There's no snow in Orlando! |
I promised my students a couple of sunny Florida pictures. |

The Mathematics department hallway at Valparaiso University. |

Looking out from the library onto the Indiana campus, again with the snow. |
Valpo uses an automated machine to retrieve books from bins, making their library far more compact than open shelves. It's quite innovative. |

It's Lay Lutheran, so they have a large chapel. About 40 percent of students are Lutheran, yet about 20 percent are Catholic. |
The interior of the chapel is pretty. The lack of ornate fixtures is Protestant. |
